As we start the new year, it’s healthy to remember that success isn’t about perfection, it’s about progression.
Sometimes it feels like we are chasing our goals like a dangling carrot. Sometimes it feels like we are just treading water, not making progress at all.
But more often than not, we are achieving more than we realise.
When my clients feel like this, I encourage them to pause and look back, not forwards, to see just how far they have come. Although they may not have quite reached their goal yet, they are street ahead than when they started.
Each big goal has it’s own milestones and each milestone is made up of lots of little steps.
While it’s great to set some ‘big hairy goals’ for 2016, remember to break them down into little actions and keep working your way through them.
That’s the way to make lasting change and to see your progress with every little action that you take.
If you’ve already created your goals, but are struggling to stay motivated and feel like you’re not making progress, then my popular post about how to get, and stay, motivated will get you back on track!
Today, take ten minutes out of your day to look back at where you were this time last year, or six months ago, or even last month. Recognise and celebrate, just how far you’ve come. Feel free to share your celebration in the comment section below.
